Arthritis is related with the pain which affects the joints of the body. Arthritis affects the members of both the sex but especially of older age. Different types of arthritis are there which affects different people in different way.

There are different causes of arthritis like hormonal imbalance, emotional stress, hereditary factors, physical exertion, infection, structural changes in the articular cartilage of joints, injury, shock, obesity, ageing, previous physical injuries, high level sports, severe fright and occupational sports.

Though there are more 100 different kinds of arthritis, but some of them are very common and their symptoms -

1. Osteoarthritis Symptoms: It is also known as degenerative arthritis, arthrosis, degenerative joint disease or ‘’wear and tear’’.

This condition is related with low grade inflammation and results in pain in the joints. In this condition the patient experiences pain during walking and standing. It is the most common form of arthritis.

2. Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms: This condition is said to be a chronic, inflammatory autoimmune disorder. It is related with the painful inflammatory condition and it affects the joints. Sometimes it may lead to substantial loss of mobility. Approximately 60% of the patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis are unable to work after 10 years of the onset of their disease.

3. Gout Arthritis Symptoms: Especially it attacks the patient in their big toe suddenly and in severe form, but it may affect any joint of the body. This problem can be controlled with the help of diet and drug. Usually it attacks the person starting between 40 and 50 years of age. It affects maximum people between this age group.

4. Psoriatic Arthritis Symptoms: It is related with the inflammation in the bone and other joint tissue like rheumatoid arthritis. Sometimes the whole body may be affected by this problem. 5% of the people suffering from psoriasis, a skin disease are affected by this problem. It is a chronic disease. For some people it is mild but for some people it can be quite severe.

5. Septic arthritis: Usually this condition occurs by the invasion of the joint space due to some infectious agent. Usually this problem is bacterial but sometimes it may be viral, microbacterial and fungal arthritis.

6. Ankylosing Spondylitis Arthritis Symptoms: This condition is related with the chronic inflammatory disease of the spine and it result in fused vertebrae and rigid spine. Usually it affects the men between the ages of 16 and 35 years. It is very harder and milder to diagnose in the women.

postheadericon Ankylosing Spondylitis Information and Treatment

Article by Alicia Stock

Ankylosing spondylitis is a form of arthritis. Ankylosing spondylitis is a disorder that generally influences the spine. Ankylosing spondylitis mainly causes inflammation of the joints between the vertebrae of your spine and the joints between your spine and pelvis. Ankylosing spondylitis affects about 1 in 250 people. AS usually develops in teenagers or young adults. Ankylosing spondylitis develop most generally between the ages of 20 and 40. Ankylosing spondylitis is 10 to 20 times more familer in people whose parents or siblings have it. Approximately 1 in 1000 people in the UK have ankylosing spondylitis.

AS affects about three times as many men as women. People with AS tend to be of medium height with a slim build and a long, narrow face. In women, joints away from the spine are more frequently affected than in men. Ankylosing spondylitis is related with HLA-B27 in affected persons of european ancestry. Environment and bacterial infections may also have roles in cause ankylosing spondylitis. Symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis loss of appetite, weight loss, fatigue, and anemia. Other symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis pain and swelling in the hips, knees and ankles.

The best way to stop ankylosing spondylitis is to daily exercise all parts of the spine and the chest area. Exercises to assert the full range of movement of your spine. Physical therapy for ankylosing spondylitis includes instructions and exercises to maintain proper posture. This includes deep breathing for lung expansion and stretching exercises to improve spine and joint mobility. Hydrotherapy (physiotherapy in water) and physiotherapy may also be helpful in reducing movement. Drugs to manage pain and reduce inflammation are commonly prescribed for people with AS.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can decrease the pain and inflammation. Anti-inflammatory medication may be prescribed to alleviate the pain and inflammation. Corticosteroids help only in the tiny-term treatment of inflammation of the eyes and of joints extra than the spine. Muscle relaxants and opioid analgesics are commonly used for only brief periods to allay severe pain and muscle spasms. Finally, patients who have severe disease of the hip joints and spine may require orthopedic surgery. Surgery for the spine is rarely wanted. Hip or knee replacements are sometimes esteemed if there is many arthritis of those joints.

postheadericon Brief Information On Cervical Spondylitis

Article by Simmy Arora

Introduction of Cervical Spondylitis:

Cervical Spondylitis is a common spine problem refers to inflammation of the vertebral joints pertaining to cervical area which primarily affects the axial skeleton, peripheral joint & extra-articular structures. It may lead to cervical disc problem or nerve compression. It is one of the causes of neck pain which starts to increase gradually. Other symptoms of spondylitis include extreme pain and contraction in the cervical region of the neck and shoulders. The pain usually flows further downwards. It also causes neck stiffness that it becomes difficult to move the neck and shoulders.

Cervical Spondylitis Symptoms:

Symptoms can vary from mild to severe. Symptoms often develop slowly over time, but may flare up if you over-use your neck, or if you sprain a neck muscle or ligament. Symptoms include:

1. Neck pain

2. Shoulder Pain

3. Neck stiffness, particularly after a night’s rest

4. Neck movement pain

5. Radiating pain from neck to arms on both side or back of head

6. Vertigo

7. Headache

8. Numbness of hands

9. Morning Vertigo

10. Giddiness

11. Weakness in hands

12. May feel irritable and fatigue, disturb sleep and impair your ability to work

Diagnosis of Cervical Spondylitis:

Examination often shows limited ability to bend the head toward the shoulder and rotate the head.

Weakness or loss of sensation can be signs of damage to specific nerve roots or to the spinal cord. Reflexes are often reduced.

A. Physical examination- The doctor may identify tender spots along the neck and evaluate your ability to move the neck in various directions. The function of the nerves and muscles in the arms and legs may be tested. Others include the following with possible findings:

• Spurling sign – Radicular pain is exacerbated by extension and lateral bending of the neck toward the side of the lesion, causing additional foraminal compromise.

• Lhermitte sign – This generalized electrical shock sensation is associated with neck extension.

• Hoffman sign – Reflex contraction of the thumb and index finger occurs in response to nipping of the middle finger. This sign is evidence of an upper motor neuron lesion. A Hoffman sign may be insignificant if present bilaterally.

• Distal weakness

• Decreased ROM in the cervical spine, especially with neck extension

• Hand clumsiness

• Loss of sensation

• Increased reflexes in the lower extremities and in the upper extremities below the level of the lesion

• A characteristically broad-based, stooped, and spastic gait

• Extensor planter reflex in severe myelopathy

B. The following Tests may be done used to show bone spur and other abnormalities and reveal the extent of damage to the cervical spine:

• CT scan or spine MRI

• Spine or neck x-ray

• EMG

• X-ray or CT scan after dye is injected into the spinal column (myelogram)

Outlook (Prognosis) of Cervical Spondylitis:

Most patients with cervical spondylitis will have some long-term symptoms. However, they respond to nonsurgical treatments and do not need surgery.

Possible Complications of Cervical Spondylitis:

• Chronic neck pain

• Inability to hold in feces (fecal incontinence) or urine (urinary incontinence)

• Progressive loss of muscle function or feeling

• Permanent disability (occasional)

Cervical Spondylitis Treatment:

They may be treated medically, by changing lifestyle factors or a combination of the two. However, they do not need surgery in most of the cases.

A) Lifestyle modification for Cervical Spondylitis:

Important lifestyle changes include using proper equipment and techniques in daily routine activities, and exercising regularly.

B) Conventional Treatment for Cervical Spondylitis:

The painkiller (analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs) with some muscle relaxant with physical therapy. Eg: hot packs and TENS etc. is given in acute stage with gentle exercise being the mainstay for chronic disease.

C) Homoeopathic Treatment for Cervical Spondylitis:

Homoeopathy includes many effective medicines for the relief in cervical spondylitis symptoms:

Colocynthis vulgaris – Remedy for constrictions and contractions felt wherever in the body, thus, indicated in muscle cramps; headache; & neuralgia esp. pain radiating to right side of neck, shoulders, arms & hands.

Ruta graveolens – Acts on periosteum and cartilages indicated by pain in nape of neck, back, loins.

Hypericum perforatum- Acts on nerve endings releasing their compression & inflammation indicated in pain in nape of neck radiating to arms to fingers; pressure over sacrum; spinal concussion; coccyx injury from RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) with pain radiating up spine.

Ledum palustre – Indicated in painful stiffness in neck & back after sitting esp. radiating to left side of neck, shoulders, arms & hands, aggravated by cold or cold water.

Cuprum metallicum – Indicated in hyperaesthsia of spinal column; twitching of muscles of back up to neck.

Dulcamara – Indicated in stiff neck esp. in damp weather; pain in small of back; shooting contractions in the loins, shoulders and arms.

Conium maculatum – Indicated in tension, stiffness & pain in the nape of the neck as from friction in the cervical vertebrae or sprains; pain between shoulders; vertigo & headache.

SPONDINTM Drops – It is a homoeopathic proprietary medicine, a unique combination of the above seven universally acknowledged homoeopathic medicines. This is useful in comprehensive management of Cervical Spondylitis/Spondylosis and relieving its associated symptoms and improving the quality of life in the patients.

postheadericon Back Pain Information You Need to Know About

spondylolisthesis

Article by Bob Beartoes

Back pain is the second most common neurological ailment in the United States. The only ailment that is more common is a headache.

The nice part about lower back pain is that it will usually disappear in a few days. After you have a minor fall or some other injury that can cause you to have a muscle pull or a ligament strain, it is very common to have some lower back pain.

Anti inflammatory medicine will sometimes give you relief. Ibuprofin is a popular type of pain reliever used for this purpose. You should also consider treatment by using ice and rest. Over the next 5 to 7 days your back pain should improve. Back pain is not only related to adults. In fact, 10 to 40 percent of teenagers experience some form of back pain as well. Pain relief for teenagers and adults should be similar.

Low back pain associated with muscle fatigue can come and go at different times, often without an obvious reason for onset. These occurrences make it hard to get around with our daily activities. Due to the complex anatomical structure or our backs, back pain can be difficult to diagnose. Many muscle tendons, ligaments, bones and neurological components make up the structure of the back.

All countries have back pain problems and there is much knowledge about the subject. Even with the medical advances we have on the subject we do not know the many causes of back pain. In fact a lot of times back pain is caused by other body parts not functioning as they should. Fatigue in the muscles or low back pain are not a diagnosis but just a symptom. More than 80% of all Americans suffer from some type of back pain at some time in their lives. Back pain is one of the leading causes of disability for younger people under 45 years old.

So as you can see this is very common. What we know is that back pain can be classified into 3 categories that are based on duration of the symptoms:

Acute back pain – Pain will normally last for less than six weeks. Subacute back pain – Pain lasts for anywhere between six to twelve weeks. Chronic back pain – Any pain that lasts longer than twelve weeks.

Some of the common causes are:

Nerve impingement problems (pinched nerve) herniated disc problems (slipped disc or ruptured disc) spinal degeneration osteoarthritis muscular problems sciatic back pain

To provide detail of the discs in your back, in cases of degenerative disc disease, isthmic spondylolisthesis, herniated discs or spinal stenosis, MRI scans are very useful and are helpful in ruling out tumors or spinal infections. MRI scans have become the most prevalent test to check the lumbar spine. These MRI scans don’t require needles and are painless. MRI scans are usually taken after x-rays have been taken.

Muscle relaxants are used to treat back spasms. They are a bit controversial for a few reasons. These type of drugs are known to make you sleepy and if used for long periods of time, can cause a dependency for the drug and have been known to cloud the mind. Muscle relaxants are beneficial to treat back spasms but need to be taken with caution.

Some other applications such as heat, tens unit, back pain therapy, some gentle stretching and of course massage can help to relax the spasmodic muscles and backache. Sometimes muscle strains (pulled muscle) are identified as a cause of chronic back pain and also muscle imbalances. The pain from such an injury can remain as long as this muscle imbalance continues.

Don’t suffer anymore from back pain. Imagine how good it would feel to be back pain free. You can, by feeling our FREE PDF and discover the treatment of back pain and start feeling relief you need starting today. Get it Now

postheadericon Complete Information on Achondroplasia with Treatment and Prevention

Article by Alicia Stock

Achondroplasia is an autosomal predominant disorder that is a popular reason of dwarfism. In achondroplasia, the mutated kind of the receptor is constitutively involved and this leads to seriously abbreviated bones. An individual with achondroplasia has a 501001121220pportunity of passing on the gene to their progeny, meaning that there will be a 50% opportunity that each, kid will get achondroplasia. There are two new syndromes with a hereditary ground related to achondroplasia: hypochondroplasia and thanatophoric dysplasia. Achondroplasia can be detected before birth by the consumption of prenatal ultrasound. A DNA examination can be performed before birth to discover homozygosity, where two copies of the mutant gene are inherited, a circumstance which is deadly and leads to stillbirths. Other indicators of achondroplasia include sluggish machine campaign and reduced muscle color.

Because of brief height, obesity is frequently associated with the circumstance. Children frequently have intermediate ear infections because of irregular drainage of the tube from the middle ear to the throat due to the abnormal skull structure. The baby with achondroplasia has a relatively long, narrow torso with short extremities and a disproportionate shortening of the proximal segments of the limbs (the upper arms and thighs). There is a typically large head with prominence of the forehead (frontal bossing), underdevelopment (hypoplasia) of the midface with cheekbones that lack prominence, and a low nasal bridge with narrow nasal passages. To help with the drainage many children have a surgical procedure to place tubes in their ears. Because of abnormal skull structure, overcrowding of the teeth occur and malocclusion often results, which makes oral hygiene difficult.

Genetic guidance may be useful for potential parents when one or both have achondroplasia. However, because achondroplasia almost frequently develops spontaneously, prevention is not ever potential. Children and adults with achondroplasia can head natural lives provided they obtain thoughtful, informed maintenance by their physicians and parents. The rear of patients with achondroplasia can produce a marked persuade to the lower backwards while abnormalities in the mid-back may induce a tiny hump in infancy and compression of the spinal cord in adolescence. The spinal cord compression can need operation to unwind it. Pregnant women with achondroplasia should get their babies delivered by cesarean birth. Middle ear infections are regular and can head to balmy to soften hearing departure. Therefore, ear infections should be promptly suspected and quickly and amply treated with antibiotics or ear tubes.

The diagnosis of achondroplasia can be based on the normal physical features, the hallmarks of achondroplasia, apparent at birth. Characteristic features are too seen by radiology, ultrasound and new imagery techniques. There is no particular handling for achondroplasia. Related abnormalities, including spinal stenosis and spinal cord compression, should be treated when they induce problems. Adults with achondroplasia should too supervise and curb their weight because extra weight aggravates backwards and multilateral problems. Treatment with human increase hormone, which is yet considered empirical, has been preliminarily reported to increase the increase pace. Surgery may too assist bowing of the legs. Ear infections need to be treated instantly to avert the danger of hearing departure. Dental problems may require to be addressed by an orthodontist.

postheadericon Complete Information on Arachnoiditis with Treatment and Prevention

spinal stenosis

Article by Alicia Stock

Arachnoiditis is a neuropathic disease caused by the inflammation of the arachnoid, one of the membranes that encircle and defend the nerves of the key anxious structure, including the mind and spinal cord. Infectious etiologies include bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic agents. Noninfectious incendiary processes include operation, intrathecal bleeding, and the management of intrathecal agents such as myelographic contrast media, anesthetics, and steroids. Dye used in myelograms (diagnostic tests in which a dye called radiographic contrast media is injected into the area surrounding the spinal cord and nerves) have been blamed for some cases of arachnoiditis. Causes for this compression include chronic degenerative disc disease or advanced spinal stenosis. The condition is often progressive, can only rarely be cured, and existing treatments vary in their effectiveness.

Infection may scatter to the meninges by way of spreading through the subarachnoid place, as with intracranial tuberculous meningitis, by way of intraspinal extension of a discitis and osteomyelitis, or by way of hematogenous spreading from an origin outside the key anxious structure. This circumstance is considerably under diagnosed and unfavorable drug reactions under-reported, so that the genuine incidence has still to be established. Pain administration techniques may offer some alleviation to patients. Arachnoiditis is a hard circumstance to handle. Conventional medical treatments may help relieve the symptoms of arachnoiditis, but they do not address the root of the problem.Patients may also exhibit decreased range of motion of the trunk or legs, and urinary sphincter dysfunction. In more severe cases, partial or complete paralysis of the lower extremities may occur.

The bloated arachnoid can head to a host of traumatic and exhausting symptoms. Chronic pain is popular, including neuralgia. Numbness and tingling of the extremities is regular in patients payable to spinal cord participation. Patients with arachnoiditis may get paresis caused by compression or tethering of the spinal cord and cauda equina or polyradiculopathy caused by compression or participation of the cauda equina only. It may also lead to other spinal cord conditions, such as syringomyelia. As the disease progresses, symptoms may become more severe or even permanent. Many people with arachnoiditis are unable to work and suffer significant disability because they are in constant pain. Proper diagnosis is often difficult because signs of inflammation, such as redness or fever, are absent. Pain associated with arachnoiditis typically does not respond to pain medication or muscle relaxants.

Arachnoiditis is a chronic disorder and there is no known remedy at this moment. Treatment is limited to relief of pain and new symptoms. Most treatments concentrate on relieving pain and improving symptoms that mar regular activities. Often, health maintenance professionals urge a plan of pain administration, physiotherapy, drill, and psychotherapy. Pain medications such as corticosteroids, anti-spasm drugs, anti-convulsants, and in some cases powerful narcotic pain relievers. Some of these medications may even be administered through and intrathecal spinal pump which, when implanted inside the body and under the skin, can administer pain medication directly into the spinal cord. Steroid injections administered either intrathecally or epidurally have been linked as a cause of the disease, therefore they are generally discouraged as a treatment and may even worsen the condition. Surgery is not effective, due to recurrence.

postheadericon Important Information You Should Know About Boxer Dogs Health

aortic stenosis

Article by Laimonas

While many dog breeds have specific health problems due to genetics, owning one does mean your dog will fall prey to every single one of them. The same is true for the boxer. This breed does make great pets and are affectionate and loving animals. Check out the information you will need to know about boxer dogs health.

Some diseases are prevalent in some animals more so than in others. A couple of things could occur in this particular breed that is rarely seen in other dogs. One of these diseases is called histiocytic ulcerative colitis, also sometimes referred to as boxer colitis. This disease strikes the colon and can be painful. It occurs in boxers more than any other breed.

Histiocytic ulcerative colitis carries symptoms of sever diarrhea, many times uncontrollable. You might also see pus and blood in the stool. Weight loss couple with these symptoms means you need to take your animal to the vet. Ulcers in the colon cause this health issue. However, treatment is available and taking care of it as soon as symptoms arise is always best.

This breed can also suffer with some genetic heart and eye troubles. One heart condition many boxers suffer with is called aortic stenosis. This is a condition that warrants an abnormal flow of blood to the heart. This is indeed a serious issue and early detection is best. Talk to your veterinarian about your boxer and this condition. Listening to the heart and hearing murmur can be one of the first indicators that disease is likely.

Another heart condition you should be concerned about is called cardiomyopathy. This is an issue of that concerns the heart beating too fast or out of rhythm. The dog that is experiencing this heart problem will have symptoms of fainting and severe bouts of coughing. Making sure you keep all scheduled preventative appointments with your vet can help to detect this type of heart problem early.

The eyes of this breed can become troublesome as well. One common problem is commonly called cherry eye. This is when the third eyelid becomes visible and inflamed. Many veterinarians surgically remove this eyelid to prevent this issue from occurring. Your boxer might also suffer with an eye problem called uveitis that is inflammation in the eye. This comes from some other underlying medical conditions, so again, maintaining regular preventive vet care is pertinent to the healthy life of your boxer.

Many breeds can suffer from the painful condition referred to as bloat. This indeed can be intensely painful. The dogs abdomen begins to swell enormously because the stomach actually twists and starts to bloat from the gases in it. This can be deadly and treatment should start soon to lower the chances of death. Eating too fast or extreme stress can cause this to happen to your dog.

Taking the best care of your boxer health issues can be done through regular veterinarian care. With a breed that is prone to medical incidents more so than others, the appointments should be for at least four times a year and more so for the older dog. Talk to your vet about the possibilities of genetic illnesses striking your dog.

postheadericon Important Boxer Dog Information

Article by Jason Rusch

When you are considering purchasing a boxer, it is important for you to know about as much boxer dog information as possible. You need to do a lot of research to make sure that you understand everything there is to know about boxers before actually taking the steps to purchase one. This is because the best decisions are those that are the most well-informed.

If the boxer breed is the one which you are contemplating, chances are you have already learned a bit about boxers. Maybe you are thinking about a boxer because you like something about the breed’s temperament or some of the breed’s characteristics. However, it is also important to learn the not-so-good parts of boxer dog information. Every breed has undesirable aspects, including possible health issues or predispositions. You need to know about these aspects so that you will make a fully informed decision.

Possible Health Issues

Like a large number of other dog breeds, boxers have a predisposition to having certain health problems. There are actually three disorders that can be relatively common in boxer dogs. You should be informed about the disorders that can affect a boxer’s health, so here is some boxer dog information about the three disorders:

1. Aortic Stenosis: With this disorder, there is a blockage from the left ventricle of the heart through the aorta that carries the blood to the rest of the body.

Dogs with mild stenosis may show no symptoms and may have a normal life expectancy. Moderate to severe stenosis forces the dog’s heart to pump harder. The dog may have difficulty breathing or exerting himself.

2. Cardiomyopathy: This is a disease of the heart muscle that causes the ventricles to lose their ability to contract normally. It is more common in males than in females.

In boxers, there are three stages of cardiomyopathy:

a. An irregular heart rhythm is diagnosed.

b. Dogs may collapse or have extreme weakness once in awhile.

c. Signs of heart failure are seen in the dogs. These include weakness, loss of appetite, weight loss, and fainting.

3. Corneal Dystrophy: This is an abnormality that causes painful ulcerations and erosions in the cornea. Medication can help, but the ulcerations often reoccur and they are quite painful.

Other boxer dog information about which you should be aware may include the incidence of deafness in white boxer dogs. Fawn and brindle boxers have about a 2% chance of becoming deaf (completely or partially), whereas white boxer dogs have about a 20% chance. For this reason, many people prefer not to purchase white boxer dogs—after all, deaf dogs require drastically different training approaches.

Breeders and Health

You should also be aware of this boxer dog information. Reputable breeders screen both male and female boxers before breeding for all of the above health issues (and more, in some cases). By purchasing your boxer through an honest and trustworthy breeder, you have a much greater chance of buying a boxer that is not genetically likely to get any of the above conditions. Backyard breeders typically do not pay the hundreds of dollars for health screenings.
